Today was a tough 9 hour, 29km (19 mile) route from Drumnadrochit to Inverness but it was beautiful, varied and invigorating.
The forecast for today was not good so I started my trek early to catch the best of the morning’s weather.
My trek along the Great Glen took me out of the clamour of Fort Augustus, where coaches had begun to arrive by 9:00, up and up through pinewoods with cascading burns, until suddenly I emerged above the tree line onto rolling moorland high above Loch Ness in breezy sunshine.
Today finds me at Fort Augustus, half way along the Great Glen Way.
My trek today took me along the Great Glen Way through dense forest above the shores of Loch Lochy on the route between Gairlochy and Laggan.
First day walking the Great Glen Way (GGW), Fort William to Gairlochy mostly along the Caledonian canal. Some diversions and the walk to the start of the trail from the B&B added up to 24km (14.9 miles).
