Invergarry Castle

Great Glen Way

In August 2016 I embarked on my first long-distance hike, completing the 127km (79 miles) Great Glen Way in 5 days. Although it is one of the easiest routes in Scotland I wasn’t sure I would make it, but after coming across YouTube videos of people on long hikes (especially Keith Foskett who’s writing and videos struck a chord with me) I decided to give it a go. I made a few sketches en-route and then went on to Ullapool for a week’s drawing and painting at Bridge House Art. The Great Glen cuts across Scotland from Fort William to Inverness, following the Caledonian Canal and several lochs, Loch Ness being the largest. The final day was a 32km (20 mile) hike and by the time I reached Inverness I was struggling with a pulled thigh muscle but feeling elated at having made it to the end. I wrote about the day on BlipFoto
