Equine sculpture, Takaka.

This sculpture graces the entrance to the recreation ground in Takaka and probably dates to the 1950s when the entrance gates were built. The Rec is on our daily walks with young Esme. It can be strange to be the only people on several large fields, we sometimes feel we are the last ones left alive.

Some days the dairy cows in the adjoining fields are being led in for milking. There are hundreds of them and I don’t think I have ever seen so many together. They walk very slowly down a long track providing much interest for Esme, and she seems to provide an equal interest for them.
