A faded sign attached to the roof of this rustic mailbox reads…
NO mean spiritedness!
Not in our community
Not in our country
Not in or WORLD
“Stand UP & Speak OUT
for all human kind”
We, and the neighbours stood at our gates with lit candles at dawn this morning to remember ANZAC day. There would normally be services but they have been cancelled. The sky was breathtakingly clear and full of unfamiliar constellations. Somewhere the Last Post was being played. It was good to remember that there have been worse times.
8556 New Zealanders landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 2019. 7447 were killed or wounded, a staggering casualty rate of 87%.
This may be the last mailbox sketch at least until I can discover more when we get out a little more next week when Level 3 comes in. I do have a few more Takaka buildings to sketch.
A day to remember with passionate sentiments
