This mailbox made from a gas cylinder is over the road from yesterday’s whale in Pohara. Also nearby is a genuine Futuro house, an historic architectural gem from the 1960-70s that looks like a flying saucer UFO. Herself showed it on her Blipfoto blog and they have a fascinating history. Apparently New Zealand has many of the few surviving examples because some were manufactured here.
I received a welcome parcel of art materials yesterday. The online store has had to close several times recently due to an overwhelming volume of orders so I was pleased that mine had been processed. There was a new pad of Fabriano paper which has made such a difference! Watercolour is especially sensitive to the quality of paper and the Bockingford I had bought locally was unsatisfactory.
Off over the hill to Nelson tomorrow, the first day of Level 2 lockdown. The expensive rental car will be returned and my son and I will be looking for a used car we can share. Going ‘over the hill’ is an experience in itself. A one-way flow system often involves a 15 minute wait, the road winds precipitously around multiple hairpins and the views are stupendous if a little vertiginous!
