The leaves are turning now. It is strange to be experiencing the changes in the seasons at the ‘wrong’ time of year. It will be Spring at home.
A grey, showery day today and very heavy rain is expected tonight. Not the best weather for a family Easter Sunday but we were treated to a scrummy Sunday brunch followed by a game of afternoon Scrabble while Esme slept.

A lovely painting! The brushwork is new, changed? Spring in Ireland, yes, but this morning at 54oN it’s raining and a few days ago the wind blew all the dying flower-heads off my tulips!
You have sharp eyes Ashley! Yes, I am challenging myself to take on different subjects and approaches. I have to make some changes anyway as my paint box is getting a little depleted and not much chance of getting more at the moment!
I hesitated to use the word but I feel that the painting is more “mature”. Something else, whilst I think about it, perhaps this lock-down should be viewed the other way round, as a positive in some ways, a different perspective!
It may be that I am painting every day, spending more time and becoming more practiced with how the pigments interact with each other. I think my colours mixes are cleaner perhaps and the drawing more precise. On the other hand some feeling of freedom and spontaneity may have gone? Yes, there is much to be grateful for amid the chaos!
Delicious rich colours in the background foliage
